Visit the collection in person

The Paleontology Repository welcomes in-person visits by students and academic researchers. Just a small portion of the collection is catalogued and visiting in person allows better browsing and investigation. Travel funds for visitors may be available in exchange for a presentation at the EES Friday Seminar series. Please contact the Collections Manager, Tiffany Adrain (tiffany-adrain@uiowa.edu) to arrange a visit.

Scientific research loans

Specimen loans are usually available to academic research faculty only, for a maximum period of one year. Faculty may request loans on behalf of students and will be responsible for the specimens once received. Fragile or microfossil specimens are better hand-carried and arrangements can be made to visit to collect specimens, or to transport them for collection by colleagues, at conferences, etc.

Silicified specimens, including published silicified trilobite specimens are not available for loan but publication-quality images can be provided on request. All borrowed material and residues from permitted preparation must be returned at the end of the loan. Specimens must be kept on institutional premises, in a secure area and labels must be kept with the specimens. Loans must be returned by trackable mail
